Alice Parker at Saint Francis
Community SING and Choral Workshop
March16-18, 2012

alice_parker_2Saint Francis will have the honor of hosting a Community SING and Choral Workshop led by Alice Parker, a world-renowned choral music conductor, arranger, and composer.   Alice Parker has more than 50 years teaching experience.  Her arrangements with Robert Shaw of folksongs, hymns and spirituals are among the most performed choral repertoire.  Her book, The Anatomy of Melody, is standard reading for choral musicians.

On Friday, March 16, 7:00 PM she will lead a Community SING, open to all.  On Saturday, March 17, she will lead a choral workshop for conductors, choirs, singers, teachers, pianists, and organists.  The theme will be "Go to the Heart of Song - Sing the Gospel of Peace", and Ms. Parker will work with participants on the workshop repertoire and have participants sing and learn concepts from her book, The Anatomy of Melody.  The day will culminate in a 3:00 PM concert/vespers service featuring Ms. Parker’s own compositions and arrangements.  On Sunday, March 18, Ms. Parker will lead congregational singing during the 8:30 and 11:00 AM worship services.  A score study session from 1:00-3:00 PM will conclude the workshop.  Register for the workshop between October 24, 2011, and February 24, 2012.
