Mission Trip to Leon, Nicaragua

February 9-16, 2008

This mission effort is to build upon the work completed during the February 2006 and 2007 SFUMC Teams. The 2008 team will be working in and around Leon and other communities of the Pacific Coast region.

Once again we will be teaming up with the El Ayudante organization for projects, fellowship, and work in Nicaragua. Our team will be performing a variety of activities within the local communities of the area.

  • Construction projects will include work on schools, medical clinics, and community centers.
  • We will also participate in fellowship with the members of local congregations and staff at the mission.
  • We will conduct a variety of Vacation Bible Schools across the area.
  • We will be working with a local church to help feed and minister to the people who live day to day within the landfill in Leon.
  • We will also be collecting medical supplies for a local clinic and collecting used or new kids baseball gloves and balls for use in the sports ministry at the El Ayudante Facility.
  • Our ultimate objective will be to build on the Christian foundation of those we come in contact with so that they will be open to the message of God’s grace and share it with others.

We are looking for assistance in helping to raise funds to send the team to Nicaragua in addition to collecting funds to help with construction as well as critical supplies that might be needed by the communities which we will serve.

Nicaragua is the second poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and is currently on the road to recovery after years of civil unrest and natural disasters. For more information on the program and locations where the team will be traveling, please visit the El Ayudante website.
