Educational Endowment Fund

Saint Francis United Methodist Church recognizes the value of education. We want to embrace and elevate those individuals, of any age, who seek to cultivate and season their own gifts, talents, and passions through both traditional and non-traditional educational opportunities to give service to others.

The Educational Endowment Fund has been established to facilitate this vision. As contributions to the endowment fund near the original first goal set by the Educational Scholarship Committee, we envision having an initial principal balance of $100,000 to allow it to continue awarding annual scholarships, while enabling the principal to remain intact to generate continued monetary growth for future educational activities and opportunities. Your contribution makes these dreams a reality.

To provide educational scholarships for interested Saint Francis members, the Educational Endowment Fund also provides an opportunity for both church and non-church members to offer memorials, honorary gifts, contributions of cash, stocks, or estates, and even the designation of fundraisers. Consider honoring your loved ones with this gift and recognition.

The Educational Endowment Fund is a qualified 501c non-profit organization, for the benefit of education, through the NC Conference of the United Methodist Church for employer matching gift programs. Funds are not used for religious purposes.

As of May, 2010, the Scholarship Committee has awarded 77 scholarships to individuals attending colleges and universities covering five states for a total of nearly $39,000. To see the list of scholarship winners click here .

The Richard T. Clayton Scholarship is specifically for people pursuing a graduate degree with the intention of entering full-time Christian service. It will be awarded based on the number of applications and the availability of funds. The grant is for one year. Considerations for the Richard T. Clayton Scholarship are:

  • Be pursuing a graduate degree to enter full-time Christian service.
  • Submit a letter of request describing the reasons for the decision to pursue this educational endeavor and your plans for achieving them including the planned time frame.

Post-Secondary Youth Scholarships

Each year, the Educational Scholarship Committee determines the criteria for Holloway Scholarship, the Kempin Music Scholarship, and the Greg Allen Memorial Scholarship based on funds available. Ultimately, the vision of the committee is to make awards toward a diverse array of educational activities and opportunities. For the academic year 2011-12, Post-Secondary Youth Scholarships will be awarded to two or more high school seniors of the Class of 2012 with intentions of post-secondary educational pursuits.

Criteria for the Holloway Scholarship include:

  • Be a member of Saint Francis UMC from June 1 of the year prior to the awarding of scholarships
  • Be active in the programs of Saint Francis UMC

  • All other criteria from the Holloway Scholarship also apply.

The Greg Allen Memorial Scholarship applicants should possess strong academic skills but also exhibit a servant's heart for their fellow man and the environment. They should express by actions, a passion for the stewardship of the out-of-doors, both in activities as well as conservation of the earth and its open spaces to roam and explore God's creation. Applicants should express via community service and graduation projects their compassion for others by specific activities, random acts of kindness, being inclusive of all peoples, and sharing their faith in a positive, outgoing, laughter-filled response to life as Greg did.
